Method Acting?

I was at the **** ***** Hotel this weekend, one of the better places to do weddings. It’s an older hotel that is very well respected by Japanese tourists. Allegedly, it’s wedding chapel was the first of its kind though that could be advertising. The chapel itself is small and simple, almost elegant. A nice change from the usual gaudy, “gorgeous” style of most wedding halls in Japan.

The couple yesterday were very nice, they seemed to be quite in love. (This is often not the case.) The bride’s father was clearly quite sad about losing his daughter, wiping a tear from his eye as he sat down after “giving her away”. I found myself running through the script with a bit of extra emotion, as I thought about my own children and their wedding days down the line. I wonder if this happens with stage or film “actors”, are they affected by something in the moment, altering their performance? It’s not exactly “method acting” (as I have said repeatedly, I am no priest or pastor, merely an actor) but there ARE times in the job where you do begin to feel it a bit more.

Or maybe I’m just becoming softer in my old age. As I said, Japan is no place for the cynic. The surface IS the reality here.
